The worldwide coronavirus pandemic that has struck has left many students confused and wondering when they will be able to come back on campus.
Grambling State University opened registration for fall effective this April via email, but still many wonder will the students, faculty and staff members will get to go back to school.
Many universities have transitioned to online and online/hyrid classes for the fall. It seems GSU is headed in that direction with a return to campus still unknown.
Britni Grayson works in the administration office at Grambling State University.
Grayson has been doing her job from home and is unsure when she will be able to return to campus.
“It’s up to the pandemic and the social distancing really because if the numbers are not going down by August it may be pushed back to January 2020 so the best we can do is pray and hope that everything dies downs,” Grayson said.
Students are worried about their college experience and rather it will be wasted or not and nobody knows where anything is going because we are only at the beginning of this pandemic so it's best that everyone stay in and stay prepared for further information regarding school.
Students have taken their concern to many social media outlets and have been searching for answers regarding the fall semester.
Ryan Gilbert, 20, a sophomore at Grambling, said she was worried about her growth and whether her junior year would be wiped away from an opportunity cost perspective.
“I am a criminal justice major so I wonder about my growth because now we are taking online classes I feel that I am not getting the same education and I also worry that I want have a junior year at all and I wonder where this is going to take us it’s completely saddening,” Gilbert said.
Some students have made the best out of the situation by creating some social media posts joking about whether school will start back in August.
Time will tell what awaits the campus community in the fall and whether students should expect an online or in-person education environment or a hybrid style.
