Sigma Alpha Iota president is the student who can do it all

Ashton Gabriel Myers is a bright, warm and extremely hard working full-time student who was recently elected the president of the Eta Zeta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.

In addition, Myers is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Miss Phi Beta Sigma 2019-2020 and a Student Ambassador of Admissions and Recruitment. With all of this on her plate she still makes time to also work a part-time job.

Myers has been a member of Sigma Alpha Iota since spring 2018.

“I am a part of SAI because I enjoy the arts and I enjoy being around women that are interested in the arts as well as I am. We uplift each other.” Myers said. “I enjoy the bond that we have. The love and talent that is within the organization has really grown me as a woman. As far as being business oriented as well as nurtured my dancing and singing.”

As a Student Ambassador, Myers wishes to make a difference in the way that students see Grambling.

“I want to encourage more students to be a part of the HBCU experience and to see that HBCUs have a lot more to offer what you see on TV,” Myers said.

To add on to the many things, she was already involved in, Myers also joined Delta Sigma Theta in spring of 2019.

“I love the values that the founders stood on. My mother is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc.,” Myers said.

To be a part of so many organizations and still be able to make time for classes and work takes a lot of time management, dedications, and patience.

“I manage my time with a planner…I have a white board in my home that plans out my week.” Myers explained. “So as far as meetings that I have or events we are putting on I put on my white board. Because I am the president of SAI I have to be the most organized for them so I can properly guide and be a good leader.”

Many people come to school to get their degree and head out into the world.

Ashton Myers has made it a goal to take advantage of the many opportunities here at Grambling State University. Her time and efforts has also touch other students lives on this campus.

“Out of all the colleges that I looked at Grambling State University was the most welcoming. Here I developed my professionalism and created lifelong friendships,” Myers said.

Myers plans to be just as busy once she graduates.

A Savannah, Ga. native, Myers is working on a double major degree in social work and cyber security. She plans to own a sober living home for people with addictions and mental illness. In addition, Myers would also like to work in real estate and in cyber-security for a bank.

Last year, Myers was also a senator for the College of Professional Studies, Miss Eta Zeta 2018-2019 and Miss June 2018-2019.
