National honors awarded to GSU Campus Ministry

Rev. Consuella “Connie” F. Breaux, executive director of United Campus Ministry and Wesley Foundation, accepted the “Campus Ministry of The Year Award” for the student leaders and community of Grambling State University on June 25.This occurred in Washington D.C. with
National Campus Ministry Association. It’s a professional organization for campus ministers whose mission is to empower collegiate young people in higher education on the national level>

The organization presented for the first time in 50 years the campus ministry of the year award to an HBCU, for outreach mission, servant leadership and development of strong, bold Christian leaders for the society and the world.

On behalf of National Campus Ministry Association Rev. David Jones, president presented the Campus Ministry of the Year-2010 Award to Rev. Breaux and the United Campus Ministry of Grambling State University.

Rev. Breaux, shared as she accepted the honor that it could not have be done without God, the support, help, presence of the Holy Spirit, and encouragement of the professional organization of NCMA GSU university community, campus ministry board of directors, Trinity, Grace, Presbyterian of the Pine, local churches and the special inquiring students who desired to be transformed by connecting their academics and spiritual life.

Grambling’s United Campus Ministry focus in 2009-2010 was to equip, serve, and empower those who have been challenged through adverse effects.

United Campus Ministry and the SWAT-team contributed more community service hours for justice than any campus group at GSU, totaling 56 hours per student leader in the fall and spring semester.

A team of 13 students, board of director members and director, Rev. Breaux, mentored to the male population of Swanson Youth Correctional Center in Monroe bi-annually.
