Fire blazes a Tiger Village 400 room

Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a fire broke out in the Tiger Village 400 dormitory on the first floor. Rodney King, a freshman from Tallulah, lived in the room where the fire occurred.”I was getting ready to go to sleep and I smelled smoke coming from the closet,” King said.

King said that he tried to put the fire out before the fire department came, but the fire extinguisher did not work. He also retrieved his neighbor’s fire extinguisher, but it did not work either.

According to fireman Christopher Moore, the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

“Most of the damage in the dorm room came from the water sprinkler system, but no one was hurt,” Moore said.

King said that Tiger Village is relocating him to another dormitory for the remaining of the semester.

“I lost a lot of my clothing and suitcase. I’m not sure if they going to replace them; I’m just glad no one was hurt,” King said.
