Professor donates books to Alma J. Brown school

Dr. Evelyn Wynn, assistant professor of English, donated approximately 25 African American books along with an African American painting to Alma J. Brown Elementary School (AJB) during Black History Month.

The books, which focus on African American history, cover a broad range of topics including biographies and autobiographies of and by Black trailblazers such as Harriet Tubman, Mae Jemison, the Buffalo Soldiers and others. The collection also included books and recordings of African folktales.

“I wanted to give back to the community and thought that this would be a good way to do so, especially during Black History Month,” Wynn said.

She believes that every child should have knowledge of his/her history.

The books will be housed in the school’s library.
