Tigers take down Panthers in State Fair Classic, 35-20

DALLAS — Grambling State University defeated Prairie View A&M 35-20 Sept. 30 in the State Fair Classic at Cotton Bowl Stadium. After dropping the last five matches to the Panthers, the G-Men were able to secure victory.

This win is Grambling’s third in a row and places the G-Men first in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West division. 

Grambling is now 2-0 in conference play as the Tigers continue to play well on both sides of the ball.

Prairie View moves to 2-3 on the season with both of their victories coming against SWAC opponents. The Panthers moved the ball well gaining, 365 yards of total offense.

Myles Crawley led the Tigers offense as he threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Floyd Chalk and Chance Williams were impressive for the second week in a row as they both were able to find the end zone on touchdown runs.

The Tigers’ offense was perfect in the red zone and on fourth down. The Tigers scored all six times they made it in the red zone and converted all three of their fourth down attempts.

The defense also played well recording four sacks and Cedric Anderson grabbed his second interception of the season. Javon Carter led the way with eight tackles and two sacks while Lewis Matthews chipped in an impressive nine tackles.

Grambling will head to Alcorn State next Saturday Oct, 7, as it looks to move to 3-0 against the SWAC. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. in Lorman, Mississippi.
