Track & Field teams move into outdoor seasons

The Grambling State University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished the 2023 SWAC indoor championships with multiple athletes getting medals. 

 

GSU’s men finished in ninth place in the team standings, while the women claimed 10th in the team standings.

 

Dior Nicholson got second place in women’s shot put with a throw of 13.67 meters. Another standout for the women’s team was Jamie Richardson, who got third place in women’s high jump with a jump of 1.63 meters. 

 

Dakari Betts earned a medal for the men’s team by placing third in the men’s 60-meter hurdles.

 

The teams looked to continue to improve and have more success as they transitioned from their indoor season to their outdoor season. The outdoor season has started and the teams are competing hard and are on the backend of their outdoor season.

 

A few athletes attain new personal bests in several events and are working hard to continue to work hard to finish strong.

 

At their last meet that was hosted by Southern, the men’s 4×100 relay got second place with a time of 41.57 seconds. Mathias Cheboi also stood on the podium for the men’s 1,500 with a time of 4:03.60.

 

Lawrence Lambert and Christian leapt to second and third respectively with jumps of 7.24 which is a personal best for Lawerence Lambert and 6.93 meters.

 

Mercy Kwambai and Ruth Kibet placed second and third respectively in the women’s 1,500 meters. With times 5:09.09 and 5:13.61 they reached the podium.

With the season on the final stretch the men’s and women’s teams will look to push and continue to not only beat the competition but to improve themselves and reach new personal records.
