Tigers road into SWAC semfinals; Women bounced from tourney

Both Grambling State University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams played Wednesday in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. 

The men’s team is co-champs with Alcorn St. and are the No. 2 seed while the women’s team was the eighth seed.

Grambling’s men won their matchup against Bethune Cookman 87-72. Jourdan Smith led the Tigers with 23 points and eight rebounds. 

The Lady Tigers lost their matchup against Jackson State 59-50. Jackson State’s Jariyah Covington was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points.

GSU’s women finished their season with a 10-20 record after the close loss to Jackson State.

The G-men are continuing their dominant season with a 10-game win streak and 23-8 overall record. Grambling State next faces third-seeded Jackson State at 8:30 p.m. today at Barton Arena.
