Coronation 2020 begins reign of 67th Miss Grambling State University Ashley Dabney

This past Coronation was unlike no other Coronation in Grambling State University history.

Due to Covid, not everyone was able to attend. Those attending had to pre-register to get a seat instead of going to the event freely. Also, everyone had to wear a face mask.

Coronation was different, but it still held to the same expectations as any coronation at Grambling State University.

Coronation took place on Oct. 17 at TH Harris Auditorium at Grambling State University.

It featured the crowning of the 67th Miss Grambling State University Ashley Dabney and also, acknowledgedMiss freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

The coronation took place inside TH Harris Auditorium where  student performances are usually held.

Grambling hasn’t held any events inside the auditorium for some time leading to student excitement and giving them more of a reason to attend this year’s coronation.

Even though coronation wasn’t the same it still lived up to its expectations. The audience was excited to see Dabney crowned the new Miss Grambling State University.

“I am super excited for the new Miss Grambling. Dabney is so deserving of this title and I have no doubt that she will represent the institution well,” former Miss Grambling State University Rickenzie Johnikin, said.

Miss Grambling State University comes with numerous responsibilities and representation.

“That Grambling is in great hands with Miss Ashley Dabney,” Johnikin said. “She has shown the true meaning of leadership through her years before she became Miss Grambling. One thing I can say about Dabney is that she has always been a woman of her word and she has always stood up for what she felt was right. She is ready to take on every challenge that is presented to her.”

Dabney said she is very excited to carry the title of Miss Grambling State University. Even with the pandemic, it didn’t break her excitement.

“I am definitely excited. It seems like that was the only, if not, best news since the pandemic.”

With every reign as Miss Grambling, that person wants to be different in a way. They want to bring something new. Accomplishing goals that are planned out for the current Miss Grambling. As Miss Grambling I want to bring transparency. That’s broad but often we see student leaders and forget they are still students. So I will be shining the light on it.”

As Dabney takes her place as Miss Grambling State University, the community brings great wishes to her as reign gets underway.
