Grambling football players prepare for spring season

Since joining the Grambling State University football team, junior wide receiver Donald Johnson III has learned how much the team’s overall success comes before anything.

Covid, for the most part, has not allowed the team to have many practices and time together as a whole needed to build their chemistry that will be needed throughout the course of this season.

Johnson said when it comes to Covid the team has done everything to stay football ready and will be ready for the SWAC’s spring schedule.

“We have adapted well,” Johnson said. “Whether that be working out on your own or with some of the players. We are all just trying to stay in the best shape as much as possible and be ready when the season comes around.”

The G-Men have used this time away from the game to get themselves top physical condition and have been taking mental reps with their roles for the team.

Knowing Head Coach Broderick Fobbs’ painstaking approach to preparation, his players should be amped and ready to go despite any obstacles.

Players for GSU have a reputation for funneling individual efforts into the team’s success and a lack of care for personal accolades, instead doing whatever is needed to help the team win.

With that attitude in tow, Johnson said he and his teammates are aiming to go undefeated this year and win the SWAC conference.

This upcoming season should prove to be a testament and a recognition of who took their quarantine time and being away from the game seriously and invested in themselves.
