By first glance you may be thinking newspapers are outdated and suprised The Gramblinite still exists. The Gramblinite is the university’s first media outlet, founded in 1929 to serve the city of Grambling providing updates on local news, sports and more. You can find the Gramblinite across campus in all academic buildings and throughout the Tiger Village.
I am Jasmine Franklin, a sophomore mass communication major from Chicago.
I am a third-generation Gramblinite as my grandfather, parents, aunt and other relatives attended GSU.
Although I am only a sophomore, I have experience in the journalism field. This past summer I completed a internship with the Chicago Sun-Times. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to lead The Gramblinite this semester. My goal is to push for The Gramblinite to obtain a online presence.
Personally, I don’t read any physical newspapers other than The Gramblinite. It’s no suprise to me that many copies of our papers are left around campus weeks after being published. It doesn’t mean that our content is not interesting or good quality, to me in means our student body obains news diffrently than they did in 1929 when The Gramblinite was founded.
Last semester in attempt to become more digital, we implemened “The Gramblinite News Hour” with The Lab Radio station. Students and community members now can tune in to hear the latest on Grambling news.
This semester our goals are to continue the radio show, increase our social media following and create more traction to our website, Thegramblinite.com.
Any student can join The Gramblinite. Some people write stories every week and others write a few times a semester. You can work for The Gramblnite with whatever fits your schedule!
I encourage everyone to attend our meetings that are held weekly in the Washington Complex room 204 at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
There are oppourtinities to earn paid positions.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns.
My email address is editorthegramblinite@gmail.com. If you would like to send us any content you have please share it with our publications email address gsunewspaper@gmail.com I look forward to seeing new faces at our next meeting!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Franklin
