The Grambling Alumnae Chapter and Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be collaborating to present the Red Dress Gala on Feb. 7 in the Favrot Student Union Black and Gold Room.

The event is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

The theme of the night will be “a dress to die for, a cause to live for.”

All guests are expected to wear red dresses and gentlemen to attend wearing red ties for a night of dancing, hor d’oeuvres, healthy tips for women’s cardiac care and fundraising.

This event supports one aspect of the sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrusts: physical and mental health.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has long had a partnership with the American Heart Association for the “Go Red for Women” campaign.

After seeing that heart disease is the leading killer of women and of women of color in the United States, DST became the first sorority to join the American Heart Association’s campaign as an organizational alliance working to educate women on heart disease.

Ajaya Miller, president of the Delta Iota Chapter, said it is crucial to spread awareness of heart disease in women so that we may learn how to prevent it.

“We want to be able to make a difference in someone’s life because as black people we don’t speak much on diseases and mental health,” Miller said.

Ticket prices are: $30 per person, $240 for a table sitting 8, $20 for collegiate students, and $40 at the door.

Tickets may be purchased by contacting any member of the Delta Iota Chapter or the Grambling Alumnae Chapter.
