In the third non-conference game of the year, the Grambling State men’s basketball team was able to pick up the win against the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions.

Coming off a dominant victory versus Ecclesia College, the Tigers were able to keep the SELU team at base and add another win to the column.

The first half saw a close game as the Tigers held only a 4 point lead, out front 39-35.  Devonte Jackson led the team at the half with 16 points, finishing the night with a team-high 25 points.

Coming out of the intermission, the SELU team came with energy, but ultimately could not outplay the Grambling players.

On the night, the Tigers were able to box out the Lions, recording 38 rebounds for the night.

In the paint, they put up 36 points, tallying nearly half of the teams total points.

The Tigers also used the points off of turnovers to extend their lead, adding 22 points to the statline.

Though the Lions tied the game twice, the Tigers were able to keep them at bay, at one point taking a 14-point lead late in the second half.

They out-shot their opponents 47 percent to 44 percent, both teams combining for just nine three-pointers in total for the game.

Next up for Grambling is a trip to California to face off against a 1-1 San Jose State University  and then to Corvallis against the 2-1 Oregon State Beavers team as part of a five game road series.

With the victory, the team remains atop the SWAC standings chart as still the only team with more than one victory.
