Cross country struggles at McNeese

The Grambling State University Cross Country teams took part in the McNeese State Invitational Sept. 29-30.

Both teams put in a good effort as they placed in the middle of the pack.

Race one included the women’s side as they placed eighth in the five-mile run.

Grambling’s highest placing female was junior Naomi Kiprop. She came out with a time of 19:29 and average mile of 6:16.

Junior Priscilla Kibet had the second fastest time on the team at 20:20. She placed 42nd in the race. Junior Winny Chirchir came in 50th. The Lady Tigers other two competitors, Joan Jelagat (freshman) and Angelica Brown (sophomore), placed 72th and 79th respectively.

Race two included the men’s side who placed 7th in the four-mile run.

The men’s team did have one big standout in Fred Chepyegon. The freshman came in fifth as an individual with a time of 20:16. Another freshman, Mathias Cheboi, was in the top 30 group, placing 28th.

The third Tiger was Aaron Koech in 32nd. Also, freshman Edwin Biwott placed 69th.

On Oct. 11 the teams will hit the track again to participate in the Lois Davis Invitational in Magnolia, Ark. attempting to place higher and return to top season form.
