Deadline is Oct. 11 to apply for Bayou Classic Scholarship
The Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus (LLBC) and the LLBC Foundation are preparing for its Annual Bayou Classic Scholarship Jazz Brunch, where they will announce winners of the LLBCF/LLBC Bayou Classic Scholarship.
Scholarship applicants must be enrolled or accepted to Grambling State University or Southern University and should have a 2.75 or higher GPA.
An essay on one of the following topics s required:
ν “What it means to receive the LLBC Scholarship and how will the LLBCF/LLBC Scholarship benefit me?”
ν “What Community Service Project Have I Participated in and How Did it Help my Community?”
The essay must be no less than 250 words and no more than 350 words.
Applications should be submitted via email to caucusb@legis.la.gov or by mail no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. Advisors are asked to review the students’ essays and letters of recommendation, and provide assistance, as needed, prior to having them submit their applications.

The Scholarship Jazz Brunch is scheduled for Nov. 30, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans.
Scholarship winners must be present to receive their scholarship award.
Office of Retention seeks Early Alerts for students by Oct. 14
The Office of Retention is urging faculty members to submit an Early Alert for students who are not making satisfactory academic progress or who have not been attending class as they should this semester.
The Early Alert system, which opened Wednesday, will be available until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. The link for the Early Alert form on Banner Web can be found under the Faculty/Advisors tab.

RSVPs for College Day at Mt. Zion due by Oct. 15
The Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Grambling will celebrate a special worship service, College Day 2019, at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. The church has extended invitations to students, faculty, staff and administrators at local universities.

Mt. Zion, 2586 MLK Jr. Ave. in Grambling, has Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, followed by regular Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Bible Study is held every Wednesday at noon, and Prayer and Bible Study at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Pastor of the church is Dr. James Lewis Boatner III.
