Every girl wants her nails to be beautiful and to get lots of compliments and a good nail job can help in both areas.

Luckily for Grambling students there is a nail stylist right off campus.

Tamara Lewis has been doing nails for five years in her home. She got her cosmology license in 2007, but had at first had no interest in nails.

Lewis believes the business just came to her as God’s gift of which she couldn’t let go. She had dreams about it and got to the point where she couldn’t sleep and would get up and practice.

Lewis is planning on taking her passion for nails to next level by opening a beauty school in Grambling. She realized there is an HBCU here already but she didn’t see Grambling offering a beauty school and is now driven to open one in town.

According to Lewis, clients are like family to her, she loves her clients and they love her, and she has never had problems with any of her clients. She said the bond is different with customers if you actually try to build a relationship with them and that she treats people how she would want to be treated.

Lewis said everything her clients tell her in confidence never leaves her mouth.

Lewis’s prices range from $25 to $55. It’s $25 for regular polish and $35 for gel. The full set prices range from $45 to $55, including gel. She gives discounts to regular clients.

In August, as school was coming back into session Lewis gave her clients the option of a free bling nail, two glitter nails or a free toe polish to match their hand services. To book an appointment a $10 deposit is required. Lewis also charges a $10 fee which goes towards service. The deposit is only valid for one appointment, if an appointment is missed another $10 deposit is required.

Lewis chooses to operate her service close to the university because this Grambling basically her hometown. While Lewis is originally from Ruston she has been in Grambling for the past 10 years.

For hygienic practices she sanitizes her tools and sweeps her area every morning. She organizes her clients in files with all the things they individually need for their services. This is Lewis’s only job currently but she plans to start doing hair again.

Lewis is open to critical hand/feet conditions, but if it jeopardizes herself or the client’s health she will decline. Lewis said she actually enjoys to scape the dead skin off of feet. Her favorite type of nails to do are stelatoes.

Lewis’s hours are 8 a.m. to 5 pm. Monday to Saturday.
