The general body meetings hosted by Favrot Student Union Board (FSUB) are a big deal and now they come with big prizes.

At the last FSUB general body meeting on Aug. 28 there was a participation-based raffle and Andre’ Carter, an 18-year-old freshman from Pine Bluff, Ark., won an all-inclusive Bayou Classic package.

The prize covers his hotel room, transportation, Battle of the Bands tickets and a Bayou Classic football game ticket.

FSUB holds these meetings to discuss business and upcoming events like homecoming and Spring Fest. These meetings also take the time to accept suggestions from the student body about what artists they would like to see or what events they would like to have on campus.

Beyond winning the Bayou Classic package Carter said he was just happy to have attended the meeting.

“I loved the fact that it was open to participation and it was very engaging. The vibe was very welcoming,” Carter said.

FSUB has also been having membership drives to recruit more members for FSUB and the G-Squad.

Their next membership drive is next semester.

“I meet new people on the board and I signed up,” Carter said. “I love Grambling and I love that I was accepted the way I was it feels like home.”

FSUB’s general body meeting was to inform students about the committees that can be joined if they missed the membership drive. It also covered the new positions that are opening up for their e-board.

Linneka Watson, a junior who currently serves as the Chair of Publicity and Communications for FSUB, said her favorite part of the meeting was the feedback that was received about the events that were hosted during welcome week.

“I will be attending Bayou Classic and I would have loved to win the Bayou Classic package, but unfortunately I could not because I am a member of FSUB,” Watson said.

There will be more prizes given away at future FSUB meetings so be sure to follow @whatsupwithfsub on Instagram for all of the upcoming events.

FSUB also encourages students are to participate in as many events as possible as they never know when an organization could be giving out great prizes like this one.

The Bayou Classic is an annual weekend experience of the rivalry between Grambling State University and Southern University.

The event is held in the New Orleans Superdome and culminates with a football game between the HBCU rivals.

Every year the event is well attended by current students and alumni of both universities that will share all of the food and culture the city has to offer, along with sly comments about who the winning team will be this year.

This year’s Bayou Classic will the 71st meeting and will be held on Nov. 30.

“This will be my first time attending the Bayou Classic and I would love to have lots of new friends by the time it’s here, so follow me on twitter @drecarter01 and don’t be afraid to speak when you see me,” Carter said.
