The men’s basketball team recently received a full schedule for the 2019-20 season.
In a two-part season, the Tigers will play 13 non-conference games heading into the new year. In 2020, the team will continue with only SWAC play for the remainder of the season in hope to secure a spot in the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
After a 17-17 record last season, the team hopes to remedy a struggling road record, finishing at 5-12 in away games. At home, the team was superb, finishing the season with an 11-3 record.
Luckily for them, the first two games are at home against East Texas Baptist University on Nov. 6, then against Ecclesia College on Nov. 8.
They then head on a five game road tour through Louisiana, California, and Oregon until the end of December.
With a mixture of road and home games throughout December, the team finishes the year against Dayton University on Dec. 23 in Dayton, Ohio.
The Tigers return in the new year against only SWAC opponents, hoping to improve on a 10-8 conference record.
Beginning in the first week of January, they will have two home games against Alabama A&M and Alabama State. From there, they play division rivals Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Jan 11 and then at Alcorn State on Jan 13 in Lorman, Mississippi.
In mid-March, the team plans to earn a spot and go farther in the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament after being knocked out last year by the top-seeded Prairie View A&M University.
With new players added, and standards set higher, the Tigers look forward to improving and excelling.
