Two big homers serve up series win over UAPB before fall to LA Tech

After strong performances over the weekend posting vic- tories in a series turned double- header versus the Lady Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff The Lady Tigers softball team suffered a loss to cross-parish rival Louisi- ana Tech on Tuesday, April 16.

Friday, April 12 – GSU vs. UAPB (Game 1)

Arkansas-Pine Bluff picked up one run in the top of therst inning to take an early1-0 lead. GSU responded with three runs on a pair of hits and took advantage of an error to grab a 3-1 lead.

McKenzie Johnson singled to center eld to begin theframe and moved to secondon a sacri ce bunt by MorganAdams. Tia Coleman walked to put runners on the corners. Both runners moved up with Johnson scoring on a passed ball. Tayler-Lenz Selvera singled to right to plate Coleman and Antiya Randle reached on an error. Randle was caught stealing as Lenz-Selvera scored to give GSU the 3-1 lead.

The Lady Tigers added to the lead with a pair of runs in the second. Tyra Triplett walked and moved to second on a sacri-ce bunt by Andreana Reynolds.Kenyshae Beasley singled to left and stole second base as Triplett scored on the stolen base. John-son reached on an in eld hit andBeasley scored on a stolen base as GSU extended the lead to 5-1.

GSU got a three-run home run by Lenz-Selvera in the fourth inning winning the gamewith three runs in the fth.With two down in the frame, Anaiyah Fultz reached on an error and Beasley got on base on a bunt single. Johnson hom- ered to right to bring in all three runs to end the game with an 11-2 victory.

Friday, April 12 – GSU vs. UAPB (Game 2)

In game two of Friday night’s doubleheader, UAPB plated two runs in the top ofthe rst inning, one in the third inning and one more in the fourth inning to grab a 4-0 lead. However, GSU fought back in the sixth inning. Johnson sin- gled to left on a pitch by Edwe- nia Foster to begin the inning. Rikkelle Miller followed, with a towering three-run home run to cut the Lady Lions advan- tage to 4-3. That set the stage for the Lady Tigers to complete the comeback in the seventh inning. Tyra Triplett reached on an error to begin the frame and advanced to second when Ke- nyshae Beasley walked. Johnson followed with an RBI double to center as Triplett scored the tying run.

Foster reached on a elder’s choice as Beasley came across to score the walk-off run, which gave GSU the 5-4 victory.

A third game in the series was scheduled for Saturday, April 13 but had to be post- poned due to bad weather.

Tuesday, April 15 – GSU at Louisiana Tech

Tyler Robinson homered to give the Lady Tigers an early lead, but was not enough as GSU fell 10-2 to Louisiana Tech Univer- sity Tuesday night at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex.

The Lady Tigers (16-18) re- turn to action on Friday, April 19 at home versus Prairie View A&M.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the GSU Softball Complex.
