Sawyer tops in SWAC after LA Tech performance

The Grambling State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Jim Mize Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech University, on Saturday, April 6. 

Jonathon Sawyer continued his impressive season winning the 400 meters well as being named SWAC Player of the Week. The 4×400 meter relay team of Evan Chambers, Lee Rudley, Jonathon Sawyer and Rudolph Valentine finished third for the Tigers.

On the women’s side, Naomi Kiprop finished second place in the 1,500 meter, while, Daneisha Curry placed ninth place in the 400 meter, Jada Johnson captured third place in the high jump for the Lady Tigers.

Grambling State returns to action Friday, April 12 in Monroe at the ULM Warhawk Invitational.
