On Sept. 6, 2018 Miss Cover Girl and the calendar girls held their calendar signing on the yard. The girls were all sitting at the table ready to sign their peers’ calendars, starting with the runner ups and ending with Miss August.
“The signing turned out really well,” Alianndra Williams, 20, a junior majoring in kinesiology from Ruston, said.
Last semester, Williams won the crown of Miss Cover Girl for the 2018-2019 academic year. This calendar signing allowed her to meet students she would serve during her reign.
“It was nice to see the students and friends come by and get their calendars signed by the calendar girls and me,” Williams said. “I felt just as good as I did when I was crowned Miss Cover Girl.”
This is the calendar’s 50th year coming out. The ladies who competed for a calendar month had to display day wear, swimsuit and an evening gown. For the ones who competed for Miss Cover Girl, they were to display the same outfits but also a talent, introduce their platform if they were to win, and then complete an interview before the show starts. This past year, 31 girls ran for a month and nine girls ran for Miss Cover Girl.
The winners this year were the following: 1st runner up, Ahmya Ash; 2nd runner up, LaJazzmond Pichon; Miss September, Tia Wright; Miss October, Rickenzie Johnikin; Miss November, Kierra Moore; Miss December, Ahmani Owens; Miss January, Madison Levingston; Miss February, Taylor Graham; Miss March, Jaalyn Roane; Miss April, Faith Poole; Miss May, Jessica Clinton; Miss June, Ashton Myers; Miss July, De’Lia Madison; Miss August, Enausha Abney; and Miss Cover Girl, Alianndra Williams.
“I was excited to see the calendar. I felt accomplished and proud because I almost did not participate in the pageant due to fear. By the grace of God, I did it and I was granted the opportunity to become Miss October and be a part of the calendar,” said Johnikin, 20, a junior majoring in mass communication from Farmerville, La.
Miss Cover Girl and her calendar girls plan to have events for the continuation of the school year. For any dates and events throughout the school year, you can check out in the 2018-2019 Activities Calendar by the Favrot Student Union Board.
