First time international enrollees into Grambling State University have been encouraged to continue the legacy of academic greatness and discipline set by previous international students. Chief Operating Officer, Martin Lemelle, brought words of welcome on behalf of President Rick Gallot.
There, he informed the students that GSU has always welcomed students from across the globe and the administration believes that international students help build GSU socially, academically, and culturally.
Thirty-seven new students, were introduced to the various department heads, who in turn outlined the array of services they offer to international students.
The aim was to ensure students are fully acquainted with all the various auxiliaries and services that the university offers, and thereby making their transition process seamless and comfortable.
Meantime, plans are in the pipeline to boost the international student population, which now totals 206 students.
GSU Registrar, Patricia Hutchinson, who spoke at the event, outlined that international students have always formed an integral part of the university’s culture and within the upcoming months, plans are afoot to launch vigorous recruiting campaigns in countries such as Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica, Belize, and other neighboring Caribbean islands. A few years ago, GSU recruited students from other territories previously mentioned, in addition to St. Lucia, Jamaica, and even Trinidad and Tobago.
Forming part of the welcoming delegation last Thursday, Sept. 6., were Dr. David Ponton, Dean of Student Affairs, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Gourjone Wade, SGA President, Adarian Williams along with representatives from the counseling and health centers.
The students were introduced to the executive committee for the International Student Organization. the various department heads, who in turn outlined the array of services they offer to international students.
