DENTON, Texas — The Grambling State University volleyball team concluded play at the North Texas Tournament on Saturday morning with a four-set (3-1) loss to Nicholls State at the University of North Texas Volleyball Center.
The Colonials (1-2) captured the thrilling four-set match, 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23.
Chasity Nicks paced the Lady Tigers (0-3) with nine kills on 27 attempts. Jaivienna Jones and Talicia Lang each recorded eight kills, while Tess Reynolds tallied seven. L’Muriell Thrower and Sheila Borders finished with 19 and 15 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Kambria Dame led the way with a team-high 12 digs.
Brieanna Hill paced three Nicholls players in double-digit kills with 17. Katie Jones chipped in with 13 kills, while Heidi Carpenter registered a double-double of 11 digs and 10 kills.
Jade Piper added 44 assists and 12 digs and defensively, Emily Venable led the way with 16 digs.

> Grambling State finished with a .125 hitting percentage (41 kills, 25 errors, 128 attacks)
> Nicholls recorded a .207 hitting percentage (55 kills, 25 errors, 145 attacks)
> The Lady Tigers tallied 15 kills on 30 attacks, with six errors for a .300 hitting percentage in the third set
> The Colonials finished with 16 kills in 39 attacks, with five errors (.282 hitting percentage) in the first set
> Grambling State registered 54 digs, 37 assists, seven total team blocks and seven service aces
> Nicholls added 57 digs, 51 assists, nine total team blocks and nine service aces

Grambling State has six days to rest before competing in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, hosted by Missouri State, on Friday. The Lady Tigers open play with a 5:30 p.m. match against Ball State and will close out the invitational against Missouri State (12:30 p.m.) and Oral Roberts (5 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 1.
