Residential life and housing to host run, walk event October 28

The Department of Residential Life/Housing will host the second Annual Glow Run/Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The department invites the campus community to come out and support Breast Cancer Awareness. Interested particpates can sign up by sending an Email to Gsuhousing@Gram.Edu. The first 50 participants will receive a free Shirt and shirts will be given out at the event.

GSU Political Science Department extends invitation to join group

For those interested in wanting to be a lawyer or become involved in Black politics, come and join the Political Science Association of Grambling State University. Stay tuned for the next meeting on Thursday,  Oct. 29 at noon in Woodson Hall  Room 132.

If your major is political science, you are welcome to come and if not still welcome and join this powerful association.

Grambling State alumni relations in search of 2015 reunion classes

During 2015 Homecoming weekend Oct. 23-24 the Office of Alumni Relations at Grambling State University has planned special events for classes to reunite and reminisce on their days at dear ole Grambling!

It’s Class Reunion time for the classes of 1975 (40 years), 1980 (35 years), 1985 (30 years), 1990 (25 years) and 1995 (20 years)! Where are they and can they make it to the GSU homecoming activities?

The office members are now soliciting a person of each class to join the Tiger Class Agent Network to assist in contacting class members.

The Office of Alumni Relations is also looking for the Class of 1966. In May of 2016, the Class of 1966 will celebrate their 50th anniversary class reunion! The office is gathering contact information for all 1966 graduates.

Grambling Chamber to honor five residents, two businesses

The 8th annual Greater Grambling Chamber of Commerce Community Contributions Banquet will be held tonight at the Ruston Civic Center.

Five area residents and two businesses will be honored at the event, which begins at 6 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception followed by the banquet at 7 p.m. 

“Contributions, the operative word in the title of this event, is what this is all about,” said Barbara McIntyre, chamber president. “We want to honor the contributions of people who have worked diligently to move our community forward and to get things done for the good of all.”

The awards and the recipients are:

The late state Rep. Pinkie Wilkerson will receive posthumously the Calvin Wilkerson Overall Award, named for her father.

Industrial Insulation Group, LLC in Grambling will receive the A.D. Smith Business Award. Elmira McCarty will receive the Thelma Smith Williams Community Service Award.

Rosiland Russell will receive the R.W.E. Jones Education Award. Attorney Russell Woodard, Judge Cynthia Woodard and Super One # 617 in Ruston will receive the Special Recognition Award.

This award is given to those who have made significant contributions to the community outside of the named category awards.

 

Seventh Day Adventist to hold ‘Prophecy Code: Final Countdown’ 

The Adventist Youth Fellowship Student Organization will sposnor a Prophecy Seminar on Friday and Saturday in Grambling Hall on the Grambling State University campus.

Registration is free and open to everyone. All attendants will receive information packets and free resources to promote further studies. 

The Friday, Oct 16 Session 3, will be held from 7 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. On Saturday, Oct 17 Session 4 will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Session 5 will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. The topic for the seminar will include “A woman, a child, a dragon”, “Antichrist?”, “America in Bible Prophecy”,  “Are the dead really dead?” and  “The Angels Cry”.

The speaker will be Pastor Etser Edouard, M.Div., and pastor for the Southwest Region Conference of Seventh day Adventist.

Galilee Baptist Church to honor Cancer survivors on ‘Pink Sunday’

Brenda Lewis will serve as guest speaker on “Pink Sunday’ at the Galilee Baptist Church in Dubberly on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 8 a.m. James E. Smith is the pastor of the church.

Lewis is the secretary in the Department of English and Foriegn Language at Grambling State University. She is a cancer survivor.

 

Mt. Zion Baptist Church to wrap up annual revival services tonight

Pastor Anthony C. Slack and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family of Grambling invites everyone to attend the last hight of fall revival at 7 tonight. 

The evangelist for the revival is Pastor Ike Byrd of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Monroe.
