Three area residents and two businesses will be honored at the Greater Grambling Chamber of Commerce annual Community Contributions Banquet Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Ruston Civic Center.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception followed by the banquet at 7 p.m.
Individual tickets are $30, and tables seating eight are $210.
“The people we are honoring have a noble history of contributing to the betterment of the Grambling community,” said Barbara McIntyre, chamber president. “These honorees have consistently gotten things done to move our community forward.”
Each award is named for longtime Grambling area citizens, past and present, who have made major contributions to the advancement of the community.
“Contributions is the key word in the title of this banquet,” McIntyre said. “The banquet is not only about publicly recognizing our honorees, it is also about honoring those who have historically helped lay the foundation of what is now Grambling. That is how we got the ideas to name the awards.”
The awards and the recipients are:
n The late state Rep. Pinky Wilkerson will receive the Calvin Wilkerson Overall Award posthumously.
n Industrial Insulation Group, Inc. in Grambling will receive the A.D. Smith Business Award.
n Elmira McCarty will receive the Thelma Williams Community Service Award.
