The Favrot Student Union Board held a calendar signing for the 2015-2016 Miss Cover Girl and the 12 young ladies representing each month of the year in front of the university bookstore on Tuesday.

A large crowd waited in line to receive signatures from the Calendar Girls and Miss Cover Girl Joi’ Lavia Porter as the calendar girls sat in 90 degree heat ready to greet and happily sign calendars for faculty and students.

“I feel overwhelmed because I’m not your typical Cover Girl that everyone sees,” said Porter, a psychology major from Dallas. “But everyone has been encouraging and that fills me up with a lot of joy.”

Miss Cover Girl was joined at the event, held at 11:30 a.m. in front the bookstore, by 14 other beautiful women:  1st Runner Up Kristen Jackson, 2nd Runner Up Astra Watts, Miss September Tiana Smith, Miss October Taylor Roberson, Miss November Genesis Williams, Miss December D’Ashley Williams, Miss January Kadija Hudson, Miss February Diamond Nicholson, Miss March Kayln Manning, Miss April Angelica Woods, Miss May Nofisat Shobowale, Miss June Jakailya Strawder, Miss July Danielle Dickinson, and Miss August Angelique Stewart.

Despite the temperature being in the 90s, the ladies still remained fashionable and fabulous and in good spirits.

“I was so excited that we were finally able to do the signing, said Miss October Taylor Roberson. “It was so great to see all of our peers come out to support us.

“Although it was a little warm, all of the Calendar Gils looked beautiful today and you could tell we had a blast doing it. What an experience!”

As the signing came to an end, Miss Cover Girl and the Calendar Girls all lined up to take a group photo that gave the ladies a final chance to reflect on the whole experience.

“I feel so honored and excited to finally sign the calendar,” said Miss February Diamond Nicholson, a marketing major from Chicago. “It makes me proud to be apart of Grambling.”

Miss August Angelique Stewart, a sociology major from Portland, Oregon, agreed. “It feels good to be a part of something that’s a tradition at Grambling,” she explained.

Overall the event had a great turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. They also seemed to enjoy the new 2015-2016 calendars.
