Elections fever starts early at Grambling State

The Grambling State Student Government Association fall elections are close to being in full effect here at GSU and you are invited.

For the next two weeks Grambling’s Student Government Association will be holding elections for all classifications that were not able to run in the spring. All students interested in joining SGA must attend both meetings to qualify as a potential candidate for office.

On Monday, the interest meeting was held in the Grambling Hall Auditorium where The Board of Elections, Dominique Wilson, Jasmine Holmes, Fetori Williams, and Nathan Ismael, informed everyone on the guidelines for the elections.

Dr. David Ponton, the associate vice president of Student Affairs, Joiya Smith, Miss GSU, and Jonathan Wallace, the SGA President also gave their outlook on how elections should be run.

SGA President, Jonathan Wallace formerly known as “J Dub”, endorsed the idea “Placing opportunity within everyone’s reach” as a theme for this school year.

Jonathan said, “This is something to help place the student in the right position to have the opportunity to pursue their dream jobs after completing college. Stressing the importance of appearance, public speaking, networking, branding you, and going on internships, all of these things will place you in the position to do bigger and better things but you must possess your own qualities to set you apart from the rest of the competition in the work force of society.”

Jonathan spoke with a lot of confidence to show he means business this year.

Each candidate must have everything turned in by Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. at the Nomination Convention.

Candidates are to submit the names of the campaign manager and workers on the form that is given at the meeting by Board of Elections.

This year’s election week will start on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with a parade that goes through Grambling from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Queen Showcase will follow the parade. The showcase is to give every candidate a chance to tell the position they are running for. This event is mainly for the Miss Freshman and Senior candidates to show the crowd what will make them a good choice for a campus queen. It will be held in the Black and Gold Room at 7 p.m.

“It is very interesting! I did not expect as many girls to come and participate for Miss Freshman and Senior. The nominations convention was a great turn out all together. I am very excited to know that this many people are active.  That really speaks volumes about what Jonathan has done so far, “ Says Miss Grambling.

Voting polls will be open for all students starting on Wednesday, September 9th.

Come out to the quad on Thursday where the candidates will be having a corn dog social at 11 p.m.

The voting polls will close September 11 at 11 a.m. The results for the fall elections will be held in Grambling Hall Auditorium at noon.

Any questions or concerns must be typed, signed, and submitted to the Office of Student Affairs. For further information, please contact Elections Commissioner Jasmine Holmes.
