Longtime GSU librarian remembered

Funeral services were held for Everlean Summers Eiland Saturday, May 30 at the New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling. She passed away Saturday, May 23.

Mrs. Eiland was born April 10, 1932 in Pine Bluff, Ark. to William and Pearlie Summers. She was preceded in death by her husband Julius Eiland Sr., both parents and two siblings.

Eiland accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She united with New Rocky Valley Baptist Church after moving to Grambling.

She united in holy matrimony to Julius Eiland Sr. in July 1955. To this union were born three children, Julius Jr., Harriett Estes and Gary Nevils Eiland.

She was employed at Grambling College, which changed to Grambling State University, for 36 years as Circulation Librarian under Pauline Lee at the A. C. Lewis Memorial Library until she retired in 1996.

She was a graduate of Arkansas AM&N (now Arkansas Pine Bluff). There she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Soroity Incorporated. Mrs. Eiland also received a masters from Louisiana Tech. 

She leaves to cherish her memory Julius Eiland Jr., Harriett Estes Eiland and Gary N. Eiland; grandson, Jashii Jamar Eiland Sr. (Kabira), great grandchildren Jashii Jamar Jr., India Elaani and Jaric Gabriel; sisters Katherine Green, Emma Lacy, Rosie Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
