Grambling alumnae to hold annual cheer and dance camp

The third annual All-Star Dance and Cheer Camp will be held on Grambling State University’s Intramural Center campus from June 26 through 28.

The camp is looking for aspiring dancers between the ages of 5 and 18 for the three-day camp that will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early registration has begun and ends June 10 priced at $50 and late registration is $65. Included in the fees are camp shirts and bags, food and the routines.

The routines will consist of pom-pom, hip hop and cheer just to name a few.

The All-Star Dance and Cheer Camp is a program that was founded by Latasha Gray and Nicole Norman for girls who are interested in the art of dance. Gray and Norman’s program mentors young ladies through the partnership of professionally trained dancers.

The core of the program exposes young ladies to the art of dance through hip-hop, pom-pom, and jazz. Each young lady will be placed in classes based on their dance abilities and age.

The participants get a chance to experience the different genres of dance as well as attend different empowerment seminars.

Both Gray and Norman are also graduates of GSU. Gray received her bachelor of science in accounting. Gray currently is a registered nurse residing in Miami. There she was a cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins football team.

Norman received her bachelor of science in marketing. A dance choreographer residing in Morristown, New Jersey, Norman has been a dancer for the New Orleans Honeybees as well as cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints football team.

Kourtni Mason, who received her bachelor of arts in political science from GSU, will be the master instructor for the camp. She was an Orchesis dancer in her time at GSU, and from there was a dancer for the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. Mason currently is an attorney at law who resides in New Orleans.
Gray, Mason and Norman all danced under the direction of Diane Maroney-Grigsby at GSU.

At the end of camp, awards will be given to the individuals who display outstanding characteristics and leadership skills. The last day will be an All-Star showcase, which will be for all parents and guardians of the participants.
