The Grambling State University men’s basketball team (2-15, 0-7) dropped their tenth game in a row to Jackson State University Tigers (5- 15, 3-4), Saturday, Jan. 24, by the score of 63 – 74.
The last game the GSU Tigers were able to come away with a win came almost two months ago against the Selma University bulldogs, which was Dec. 6.
Both the sets of Tiger teams shot poorly in the first half, JSU shooting 38 percent and GSU only 30 percent. Dominique Street was the high scorer for JSU with 19 points, the next was Derrell Taylor with 13 points and four steals. At the 13:36 mark, the Tigers were tied, but it was JSU that would go on a 25 to 11 run to end the period.
In the second half, the story was the same for GSU, trying their hardest to get back into the game.
GSU shot 40.6 percent from the field and made 12 of 16 free throws. This was not enough, however, to trump JSU, who lead by 15 at one point.
On the game, JSU shot 39.7 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from the 3-point line and 69 percent from the foul line. GSU shot 36.5 percent from the field, 20 percent from the 3-point line and 70 percent from the free throw line for the game.
Grambling’s high scorer was A’Torri Shine with 18 points and a steal, the next was Redmond Brown with 14 points and a steal also.
The Tigers allowed 51 bench points from JSU and only scored 14 points from their own bench. They also allowed JSU 17 points on GSU turnovers.
The next game the Tigers are set to play is against the University or Arkansas – Pine Bluff, at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Arena, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.
