Students’ Choice

Normally, the members of the Favrot Student Union Board decides who will be the performers, but this year they decided to have the students vote on the artists they would like to perform for Springfest. The announcement of the voting was broadcasted on the FSUB Instagram and went on for a week starting Monday, Jan. 12 in the Tiger Express and General Assembly building.

“Instead of the Student Union choosing the artists and getting negative feedback from the younger generation, we decided to let the students choose this time,” said Keenan Cowan, FSUB president.

“By letting the students vote, we felt that this will help the students feel more involved and it plays a big part in making our events possible and exciting.”

The idea came from Casey Byrd, associate director of sudent activites, at a general meeting held by the Favrot Student Union Executive Board on Friday, Jan. 9. The meeting consisted of Keenan Cowan and Khadijah Freeman.

The list of artists that students are voting on include Kevin Gates, K. Michelle, Dej Loaf, Rich Homie Quan, Rae Sremmurd, and Teyana Taylor.

“The students should’ve been voting on the artists they would like for Springfest. Springfest is for the students so why not let them pick,” said Glenron Fleming, a senior mass communication major from Monroe.

The Favrot Student Union board has counted the votes. The amount of money each artist is asking also plays a major role. The final decision will be revealed on a later date.

“The idea on how they are doing the voting process this semester was a good one. It gives everybody an opportunity to pick through varieties of different types of music that they would like to spend their money on to listen to,” said Margaret Garcia, a junior kinesiology major from California.

Springfest will be the week of April 12-17.
