Visual and Performing Arts to feature an alum’s exhibition

The GSU Department of Visual and Performing Arts will feature alum artist Kevin X. Rhodes in the Dunbar Gallery, from Tuesday, Jan. 20 until Thursday, Feb. 26.

The exhibition, entitled Continuum, explores traditional textile materials and how the essences of those materials are manifested through sculptures, drawn paintings, and photographic media.

Rhodes said, “Process is important. The process generates a sensory communication between artist and object, in which an understanding of the material’s properties are developed.”

The artist will present a public lecture that gives insight into his growth as an artist and the concepts behind his works on Jan. 22 in Grambling Hall Auditorium from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. A reception for the artist will be held after the lecture from 4:30 – 6 p.m. in Dunbar Gallery located on Hutchinson Street in Grambling. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Rhodes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Grambling State University in 2009. He continued his Post-Baccalaureate studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia. In 2014 Rhodes received a Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA. Gallery Director, Donna McGee stated, “We are very pleased to welcome Kevin back to GSU. He is an excellent role model for our students.”
