KGRM to host annual Radiothon

Grambling State University will continue a long list of Homecoming events with its third annual radiothon on Friday at the 91.5 KGRM radio station on the second floor of Washington-Johnson Complex.
The goal is to raise $50,000 for scholarships and recruitment efforts from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring in contributions during this 12-hour live broadcast or donations can be made by telephone at 318-274-2182.
In 2013, KGRM received over $30,000, which exceeded the amount raise during the first annual radiothon in 2012.
Supporters can also make donations online by going to the university website www.gram.edu.
Grambling’s Former president, Dr. Frank Pogue, started the morn- ing off with the first set of dona- tions and talked on the air with to general manger of KGRM Joyce Evans.
A memorable moment during last year’s event was the appearance of Dr. Leon Whitaker. Whitaker was a member of the last freshman class enrolled in the Negro Normal Industrial Institute in fall 1945.
Another quest appearance was Wendy Calahan, who is a retired administrative assistant in the Engineering department.
Calahan made a donation and after walked into the booth to be live on air. She wanted to inform listeners and let them know that the radio- thon is very important and it is a way to benefit the students and to
give back. “It’s all about the students at Grambling State University, its not about me or about Ms. Evans,” Calahan said.
Last year’s Miss Brown and Gold Elizabeth Eddy also came to the radio station to make her donation and to make it known how impor- tant the radiothon is.
Former students, who honed their skills at KGRM before becom- ing professionals, could be seen in the station throughout the day.
All donations are considered tax deductible.
