Cover girl/calendar contestants named

The 46th Annual Miss Calendar Girl Scholarship Pageant will be held March 22 at 7 p.m. in T.H. Harris Auditorium. “Ladies Night Out” is the theme for the semi-formal event in which six will vie for the Cover Girl title and 22 for the months.

The first Calendar Girl Pageant was  presented on March 24, 1969, at GSU. The setting was in T.H. Harris Auditorium, and the décor was bright orange with a green crown trimmed in white.  This new  concept of entertainment was sponsored by the Favrot Student Union Advisory  Board.

The idea was to choose a Cover Girl, 12 Calendar Girls for each of the calendar months and to sponsor a social affair to honor the pageants’ winners each month.

Since its initial staging, the pageant has  grown to give the winners scholarships. A selective group of outstanding personalities served as judges in selecting  the winners. Because of several categories, the pageant was a two-night event.

The preliminaries were held the first night and all contestants were judged in casual  wear along with Cover Girls in the area of self-expression.  The second night, all  the contestants were judged on bathing suits and formal wear. The talent portion was for Cover Girl contestants only.

This year’s contestants will be judged on daywear, swimwear, and eveningwear

Only Cover Girl contestants are judged on talent and interview. Interviews are conducted a few hours before the pageant.

The Cover Girl contestants are Dominique Banks from Omaha, Neb.; Yarica Charleston from Fort Worth; Elizabeth Eddy from Ruston; Kadijah Jacobs from Dallas; Regernique Rasco from Shreveport and Ciara Wilson from Tulsa, Okla.
