Dr. Pogue extends welcome

Dear Students:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Grambling State University for the 2014 Spring semester.  I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful Christmas break and that you are ready to return to the business of your education.

This promises to be an exciting semester, one that will require your commitment to prepare yourself by studying and applying knowledge gained to accomplish your educational goals.

During the upcoming days, we will be seeking a name for our grand Tiger statue.  We want you to submit your suggestions for naming the statue. The top ten names will be voted on by you, the students, and the winning name revealed at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Leadership Awards Luncheon on February 4, 2014.  I know that you want to be a part of this competition, so let us hear from you.

We are proud of the overwhelming response of our students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends from all over the nation who responded to the Allstate Quotes for Education program. Your response enabled us to win the challenge and become the recipient of the $50,000 award.  Thank you for your support.  Scholarship recipients and amounts will also be announced at the Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Leadership Awards Luncheon.

Whether you are a first-time freshman, a transfer student or a returning student, you are the lifeblood of this institution.  For this reason, all of our efforts are geared toward providing you with a quality learning experience.  We want to ensure that you are afforded an education which results in a successful and rewarding future.

Please remember my consistent message to you – the primary reason you are at GSU is to get your degree.  Do not leave here without it.  We also encourage you to have fun and enjoy the many cultural and co-curricular activities that have been planned for your enrichment and enjoyment.

Again, welcome. Enjoy the Spring semester. I look forward to seeing you throughout the campus.

Sincerely,

Frank G. Pogue, Ph.D.
