Running toward his dream

Grambling State University Labortory High School’s up and coming track phenomenon Monsanto Nelson  is ready to take his talents to new heights. 

This junior is anticipating the up and coming track season. It will be his third year running track for Grambling High School. Nelson is a middle and long distance runner. He runs the 1600 and 3200 meters.

Monsanto started running track his freashmen year.

“Running track feels like a cleansing of my mind and body,” Nelson said.

“It relieves stress, keeps my mind busy and my mind leveled. 

While he was a freshman, he placed 3rd, 4th, or 5th on the track. Each year, he improves for the better. 

During the off season, his workout consist of running and stretching at least three days out of the week for two hours to build strength and endurance. But when the new track season starts, he plans to  place first but doesn’t mind placing second.      

Nelson has already started on his accomplishments. During Monsanto’s 10th grade year, he won district in the 1600 and 3200 meter races. He also went to regionals placing in the 1600 and 3200 meter to become a contender for state. 

When Nelson went to state, he placed 6th in the 1600 meter and, in the 3200 meter placed third. 

Nelson’s goal is to better himself and head toward the college level and beyond and also be a contender in the future Olympics. 

Nelson has the potential to reach all of his goals if he keeps up the perseverance and the consistency. He will certainly break many records of his own.
