A recall of 45 years of dedication

Dr. Allen Williams, professor, thespian, academician and author impacted the lives of countless students during his 45- year tenure at Grambling State University.  He died in 2011.

While at Grambling, Williams served as acting dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and head and professor of the Department of Speech and Theatre.

“It was nice to see the annex named after him where the KGRM radio station is now housed,” said Alicia Williams, daughter and graduate of GSU.

Williams said there will continue to be a Dr. Allen Williams Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund in his name at GSU.

Dr. Williams served as the announcer for the Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band for 25 years and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Williams received his bachelor of science degree in speech and drama in 1956 from GSU, his masters’ and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Indiana at Bloomington in 1962 and 1973 respectively.

A veteran, Dr. Williams served in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Specialist 4th Class while stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.
