Eddie Robinson Jr. funeral set for Saturday

 

 

Funeral services for Eddie Robinson Jr. will be held in the T.H. Auditorium Saturday at 11 a.m. on the campus of Grambling State University.

There will be a viewing held at Miller Funeral Home, 706 Woodward Ave. in Ruston from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling on Friday. 

Eddie G. Robinson Jr. passed away Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas due to complications resulting from heart surgery. He was born Oct. 20, 1943, in Baton Rouge. 

Eddie, who shared his father Eddie Robinson Sr.’s life-long love for football and the student-athletes who fondly referred to him as “Coach Jr.,” was a cherished husband to his late wife, Gloria, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.  

Eddie Jr. cared for his family unfailingly and without complaint and continued to contribute his time and skills to the Grambling State University football program through last season. 

He received a bachelor’s degree from GSU in 1966 and a master’s from Southern University in 1972.

Eddie Jr. was a former standout, quarterback at GSU in the ’60s. Not only did he coach at Webster High in Minden, Carroll High in Monroe and Grambling High, he also coached the running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks at Grambling State University.

Remembering him will be his mother Doris Robinson, one son, two daughters, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
