McJamerson services set for Tuesday

Funeral services for Dr. Jimmy “Dr. J. Mc” McJamerson will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., June 18 at New Rocky Valley Church in Grambling. Family hour is Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 706 Woodward Ave., under the direction of Our Christian Funeral Home (which is recovering from a recent fire).

McJamerson passed Wednesday morning at Northern Louisiana Medical Center following a brief illness.

A retired professor of history at Grambling State University, his career highlight was returning to his alma mater to teach in the Department of History at GSU where he worked for more than 33 years.

A native of Ferriday, he was the fifth child of six born to Willie McJamerson and Banksie Wells McJamerson. He graduated from Carver High School in Bunkie

He became a proud father when his daughter, Nicole Tian McJamerson, was born in 1973 and later his son, Jimmy McJamerson II in 1980.

Jimmy McJamerson was preceded in death by parents Willie McJamerson and Banksie Wells McJamerson; siblings Willie McJamerson, Glenn McJamerson, Albert McJamerson, Theophus McJamerson and Viola McJamerson; and adopted mother, Dr. Minnie T. Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his accomplishments wife Dr. Nanthalia McJamerson of Ruston; daughter Nicole McJamerson Kearney (Douglas) of Santa Clarita, Ca.; son Jimmy McJamerson II of San Diego, Ca.; grandchildren Elijah Kearney and Khalilah Kearney; niece Rosanne Bradford; grandnieces Charlotte B. Francisco (Curtis); cousin Lyman Hayes who was as close as a brother; Mr. Lyman Hayes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
