The 45th Annual Calendar Girl Pageant is slated for Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in the T.H. Harris Auditorium on the Grambling State University campus.
The theme is “Around the World We Go…On Tiger Airlines Flight 45!” The attire is semi-formal.
There are six young ladies vying for Miss Cover Girl and twenty-four contestants vying for calendar months.
Cover Girl contestants are Raquel Brown, Ginia Smith, Tierra Smith, Silver Spikes, Yvonne St. Luce and Tiara Thomas.
The first Calendar Girl Pageant was held March 24, 1969. The setting was in T.H. Harris Auditorium and the décor was of high orange with a green crown trimmed in white. This new concept of entertainment was sponsored by the Favrot Student Union Advisory Board.
The idea at that time was to choose a Cover Girl and twelve Calendar Girls for each of the calendar months and to sponsor a social affair to honor the calendar winners and Miss Cover Girl each month. Since the initial staging, the pageant has grown to give the winners scholarships.
A selective group of outstanding personalities served as judges in selecting the winners. Because of several categories, the pageant was a two-night event. The preliminaries were held the first night and all contestants were judged in casual wear along with Cover Girls in the area of self-expression. The second night, all contestants were judged on bathing suits, formal wear, and only Cover Girls displayed their talents.
