Lady Tigers volleyball team falls to UAPB

The Lady Tigers, hopeful for their first win, took on the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions. 

UAPB (7-13) coming off a win against Henderson State University, looked to sweep GSU in the season series winning the first game on their home court. 

The Lady Tigers (0-17) got off to a fierce start going point for point with UAPB until the Lady Golden Lions pulled out and won the set 25-21 in the first set.

No.3 Tiara McIver led the charge with four kills. The Lady Tigers started the set in the same fashion having a five point lead early in the set as the Lady Tigers got a burst of athleticism that hasn’t been exhibited all season. 

The gymnasium erupted with cheers as the Lady Tigers won the set 25-17. The Lady Tigers looked poised as they entered the third set having a five-point lead early. GSU attacked the ball with the ambition to win. 

GSU had a 21-16 lead late in the third set, but as UAPB closed in the Lady Tigers collapsed. 

The score was 21-20 UAPB then went on to score five straight points to win the set 25-23. 

The Lady Tigers dropped the last set in dramatic fashion coming up two points short losing the match 3-1. 

Post game, McIver commented by saying, “Thursday night was the toughest lost because the team was one, the crowd was involved all game victory was so close and it slipped away due to small mistakes.” 

McIver also went on to say, “Were in a rebuilding year we have tons of potential and we appreciate the patience of our fans and soon we will bring GSU volleyball back to greatness.” 

Breonna Loud (5) also commented post game by saying, ” We have to remain focused, stay grounded and have faith in our goal of being competitive in or division and be able to finish the close games.” 

She continued, “Were going to have a focused week of practice so we can come on top our last three games of the season.”

 The Lady Tigers next chance for victory is Oct. 30, against the Alcorn State University Lady Braves.
