Alums give back to technology

Grambling graduates Jon Hawkins and Ken Lear has chosen to give back to the Department of Engineering Technology when the department established the “DET Wall of Fame”. 

The purpose of the “Wall” is to display alums and others who make a contribution to the department for the proposed C.A. Wiley Scholarship Program and/or supplies and materials.

Donors are categorized as Gold – $1000+; Silver – $500; Bronze – $300; and Patron – $100.

Hawkins, a 1990 Grambling State University graduate, with a bachelor’s degree in drafting design engineering technology where he received his commission as a second lieutenant in U.S. Army. LTC Hawkins has served his country honorable for the last 22 years in varies demanding jobs and locations.  LTC Hawkins has attended several military schools such as, Armor Basic Course, Military Intelligence Transition, Advance, and Signal course, Material Acquisition Management, contracting, Program Management, Command and General Staff College. 

LTC Hawkins earned his Master’s degree in Acquisition Contracting Management from Florida Institute Technology.

LTC Hawkins is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc and Prince Hall Mason. LTC Hawkins hauls from Los Angeles and was a member of Grambling Track team from 1987-1990

LTC Hawkins is married to Katrice Hawkins and has two children (Britney & Tori).  Britney is a sophomore here at the university.
           

An AVP – Environment, Health & Safety
in Dallas, Lear is an assistant vice president of environment, health and safety for AT&T, is responsible for ensuring corporate and regulatory compliance related to the environment and worker health and safety.  He leads a team of EH&S professionals covering the United States and international territories where AT&T operates.
Ken joined AT&T in 1992 and has held various leadership positions within AT&T’s Corporate Real Estate Department, which provides enterprise wide building design and construction, property management, real property transactions and environment, health and safety services.  

Prior to joining AT&T, Lear worked for a Civil Engineering firm in California.
Lear is a 1989 graduate receiving his B.S. Degree in drafting and design engineering technology (Cum Laude). He also holds a MBA from St. Mary’s College, California. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Both Hawkins and Lear did not hesitate to become  “Silver Donors”. They  indicated that was just the start of how they plan to assist the department.
