Alumnus celebrates 18 years as church pastor

Destiny World Church of Austell, Ga., plans to commemorate the 18th anniversary of its senior pastor Wilbur T. Purvis III. Church ministries will honor Pastor Purvis, Lady Kim Purvis and the first family with an evening of honor on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. and will feature special guest comedian Lance Thompson as host. Captain Jonathan and the Crew will provide live musical entertainment.

The Mission of Honor celebration continues on Saturday, April 16 at 6 p.m. during Destiny Austell’s recurring Alive at the 6 service. A reception will immediately follow this service. The week’s events will culminate on Sunday, April 17 at 8am and 10:45am with special guest speaker Bishop Ken McNatt of Ken McNatt World Outreach headquartered in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The public is invited to attend the church services to extend well wishes to Pastor and Mrs. Purvis and worship with the Destiny World Church family.

When Pastor Purvis arrived at Destiny World Church (formerly Mt. Sinai Baptist Church) 18 years ago, it was a small congregation of 40 members that has grown to the mega size it is today. “Pastor Purvis embodies authentic leadership because the Godliness that he brings to the table trumpets itself by what he does for others outside of the four walls of a church” explains David Morgan, Destiny World Church member and community leader. “For me, he redefines what and who a Pastor is and should be.”

To accomplish his vision, in 1998, Pastor Purvis founded Destiny Christian Academy, a school of distinction that serves pre-K2 through 3rd grade. In addition, WTP Ministries, a non-profit 501 (c)(3), was formed to host conferences and is most notably recognized for awarding the Savannah Raines Scholarship named in honor of his grandmother to college-bound seniors.

As a builder, he led his congregation in the purchase of 26 acres of prime real estate in metropolitan Atlanta and construction of the first phase of a multi-million dollar project. As an entrepreneur, he has formed businesses that have led to individuals obtaining home ownership and employment opportunities.

As a philanthropist, he has funded the Wilbur T. Purvis Endowment at Grambling State University, his alma mater.

Purvis holds a Bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University in Louisiana and a Master of Divinity Degree from Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta. He is a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

While his accomplishments are many, his greatest joy comes from being married to Lady Kim Purvis and being a devoted father to Christina and Destin.
