GSU nursing organization sponsors scholarship run

The Grambling State University Student Nurses Association held its 2nd Annual Tequita Bryant Memorial Scholarship 1 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday April 2, 2011 at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Nursing building. Bryant was a Graduate of Grambling and was a member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Members of various organizations such as: Circle K International, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. On February 29, 2008 Bryant collided with a tree southbound on US 167.

Bryant died due to injuries at the age of 26.

Reportedly, Bryant was not wearing her seatbelt. Two scholarships were awarded in her name, one to a pre-nursing student and the other to a student in the professional program.

The scholarships were awarded for the top male/ female walk/ run in the pre-nursing and professional program.

At the walk was a poster describing her future goals Bryant planned on being married, having children, and living in Dallas as a registered Nurse.

Diane Bryant the mother of Tequita expressed how she appreciated everyone’s participation in the walk and expressed that Bryant always used the slogan: “Everybody Is Somebody.”

Various items were up for bid and donations were accepted to go towards the scholarship fund.

“I was honored to see that the Tequita Bryant Scholarship was in memory of Tequita, my AKA sorority sister,” said Nursing major Jey’Dah Louis.

“I’m a transfer student seeing blacks being honored is truly an honor.”

“The walk was bigger than it was last year it was a success and, I expect a bigger turns outs each year.”
