GSU band to sponsor summer high school camp

Grambling State University Band will be hosting “2011 High School Band Camp” from July 10-16.Band camp is open to elementary, junior and senior high school students. Student must at least be in the fifth grade in Fall 2011. Campers must wear name tags at all times.

The cost per individual is $300, minimum deposit is $100 and discounts for 10 or more students per school is $290. Cashier’s checks or money orders can be made payable to GSU Marching Band and mailed to Grambling State University Band, P.O. Box 4238, Grambling, LA 71245.

Notification of receipt of deposits via e-mail and receipts will be issued upon arrival. There will be no exceptions for personal checks.

Fees are not refundable if entry is canceled after June 17. Cancellations before the above date will be charged a $50 processing fee.

Applicants should fill out a registration and medical consent form.

Auxiliary group activities will include solo twirling, ensemble twirling, drill team routines, drum major workshop, dance units, street drills, drumline routines and flag twirling.

Musical activities include concert band, jazz ensemble, elementary theory, percussion, marching band, orchestra, brass, woodwind and beginner band.

Campers should bring a twin size fitted sheet, pillow/pillowcases, trash bags, housecoat, blanket, towels, soap, laundry bag, instruments, mouthpieces, reeds, swimsuits, ligatures and personal instruments.

For those with automobiles, take interstate 20 and take Grambling exit 70 miles East of Shreveport or 35 miles West of Monroe; by air, purchase tickets to Shreveport or Monroe.

Transfer to Greyhound Bus Lines to Grambling Greyhound Bus Terminal and those by bus, Greyhound buses unload at the Bus Terminal on the Northwest corner on the campus.

All chaperones/directors/parents choosing to stay the week are responsible for their own lodging and meals. The camp will be held at the Conrad Hutchinson Jr. Performing Arts Center, next to Robinson Stadium.
