GSU Lady Tigers reign over Lady Lions

PINE BLUFF, Ark.–The Grambling State Lady Tigers basketball team made short work of the Lady Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the second time this season as they turned in a 72-43 victory tonight.It was all Lady Tigers in the first half opening a 4-0 lead to start the game. The Lady Lions held fast and remained in the game until the 14:14 mark when the score was tied at seven before the Lady Tigers behind staunch defense began to methodically pull away to a 36-17 halftime lead.

Grambling shot 12-27 (44.4-percent) from the floor; while UAPB was 6-22 (27.3-percent).
But it was the Lady Tigers defense that created 20 UAPB turnovers with 12 steals that made the difference.

Grambling out rebounded UAPB 18-15 in the half.

In the second half, UAPB would come no closer than 15 with 14:33 remaining in the game. From that point the Lady Tigers would go on a 12-0 run and hold a 52-25 lead with 10:03 left to play. UABP committed 32 total turnovers with GSU recording a season high 20 steals.

The Lady Tigers were led by Secrett Anderson and Tonishea Mack. Anderson turned in her fifth double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebound with six steals. Mack added 10 points, three assists and three steals. Rachele Dobbins, Kristen Harper and Deleisa Brown had eight points each.

UAPB was led by Jenise Gentry with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Chigoziany Okwumabua had 13 points and eight rebounds. Laquisha Slaton added 12 points including a three-quarters court buzzer beater as the game expired.

Grambling (12-14, 8-7) will return to action Saturday night for their final game of the season when they take on the Hornets of Alabama State.
