Grambling State men fall to Jackson Tigers

Jackson State defeated Grambling State 69-57 in Grambling last Saturday night. Tyrone Henson led Jackson State with 19 points.This game was a rematch from the first round of last year’s SWAC’s tournament game, where Grambling State eliminated number one seed Jackson State.

Grambling State came out the gate aggressive and held a lead until Jackson State took control of the game at the 8:01 minute mark in the first half and never looked back.

SWAC’s second leading scorer Jenniro Bush, came in to the game averaging 14.2 ppg didn’t give Jackson State much production finishing with only 7 points and was 2-6 from the field. Grambling figured out a way to stop Bush, but had no answer for Henson.

Throughout the course of the game, Henson scored in a variety of ways, including 3-5 from the three point line. Jackson State also took advantage of Grambling State’s inability to control the paint. Jackson State was only 4-8 from behind the arc.

Grambling State squandered opportunities to put points on the board, missing fastbreak lay-ups was just one of their struggles that contributed to their loss on Saturday night.

Justin Patton and Donald Qualls each gave maximum effort with pitching in 13 points, but just not enough to defeat Jackson State.

With the win, Jackson State that gained an overall record of 10-9 and 6-1and put Grambling State at 3-16 and 1-6. The Tigers next game is home against Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Hopefully the Tigers can bounce back from the tough loss on Saturday night.
