GHS basketball team on fire

The Grambling High School boy’s basketball team will try to remain undefeated at home when it takes on Sarepta on Friday night.
With a record of 17-3 overall and 5-0 in District 1-1A, the Kittens are currently ranked No. 3 in the state among Class 1A schools. This ranking was determined by the Louisiana High School Athletic Administration power rankings.

The most recent team to fall victim to the Kittens was Dubach on Tuesday night.
The final score for 77-45. Dubach is ranked 12th statewide in Class C.

The team’s No. 3 ranking is even more surprising because they are being led by a first-year head coach, Fred Hearn.

The only losses the Kittens suffered were against Evangel (OT), Gibsland-Coleman and Southwood.

Leading the Kittens statistically are Robert Wiley and Jameion Kimble, who both average a team high of 14 points per game.

Brauhne Turner averages 10 points per game, yet leads the team in rebounds with 12 RPG.
The keys to victory are fundamental, according to Coach Hearn.

“If we defend well and pressure the ball, we should be alright,” Heard stated.

“Rebounding the ball coupled with defense will always be the key.”

The Friday night’s boys game will start at 7 p.m. in the GHS Gymnasium. The girls’ team, the Kittenettes, will play at 6 p.m. They are coached by Cecil Gray.
