Classic corporate reception enjoyed

The Bayou Classic Corporate Reception was held Friday in the Bienville Club Lounge of the New Orleans Superdome. The event was presented by Adams and Reese LLP.The mistress of ceremony encouraged attendees to do a number of things which included finding a student and giving praise to him or her for staying in school and the good work he or she has done. Get to know a new person, and enjoying the evening.

Buster Nelson represented State farm, who has been a supporter of the Classic for 15 years. Others supporters included Coca-Cola, Miller Forest,U.S. Marines, Kelloggs, and Source Magazine. The State Farm representative presented a $202,500. check to both schools followed by a $20,000. check from Kelloggs.

Dr. Frank G. Pogue, president of Grambling State University, addressed the crowd. Recognizing Southern president, Ronald Mason as well as the Southern family, thanked State Farm and the other sponsors for their support of the Classic.

The GSU president reminded the group that HBCUs were not founded just to educate former slaves but they were founded to educate people who want to learn.

Southern’s president Mason also chimed in to thank the sponsors for their support of the classic.

Both school athletic directors, J. Lin Dawson of GSU and Bryan C. Williams of Southern, were on hand for the reception.

State Farm received the Golden Award for their support of the classic. A Silver Award was presented to Miller Forest for 11 years of sponsorship to the Classic. Bronze awards were presented to U.S. Marines for 10 years of support, Kelloggs for nine years and Source Magazine for two years.

Coca-Cola was recognized for being one of the Bayou Classic supporters for 37 years and received thanks for their continued support.
