Tigers fare well at cross-country championships

Grambling State University’s underestimated women’s cross country team pulled through with a strong victory at the Southwestern Athletic Conference championships in Mississippi recently. The team was led by freshman Ameesha Washington, who finished in third place.

Grace Korir followed Washington with a fifth-place finish, while Shaquea Howard and Tiesha Alexander sealed the championship with their eighth- and 10th-place finishes.

Washington, Korir, Howard and Alexander were named to the SWAC All Conference team for the 2010 cross country season.

The GSU men’s cross country team, which placed second to the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils, were led by Darwin Price, who placed third overall.

Brian Ramos finished seventh. Price and Ramos were also named first team conference for the 2010 cross country season.
